The new 2024 Toyota Tacoma prototype was reportedly spotted in the wild, with numerous noticeable changes. At first glance, the next-generation truck appears to be larger and more appealing than the previous model. Furthermore, the extensive camouflage is there, concealing the redesigned cab and bed, which look to be relatively smaller than the Toyota Tundra.
The new truck should sit on the same TNGA-F architecture as the Tundra truck and the new Sequoia SUV. This time, the centerpiece is undoubtedly a new powertrain. To our knowledge, Toyota will equip the Tacoma model with a turbo-four engine similar to the one found in the Lexus lineup of SUVs.
Toyota Tacoma Engine Specs
Some nice things will happen under the hood, as the upcoming 2024 Toyota Tacoma will finally get a new engine. According to what we know so far, the company will use a modern engine found in the Lexus NX350 model. This variant has a 2.4-liter turbo-four engine that produces 275 horsepower and a torque of 317 lb-ft.
This engine has an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Tacoma, like the new Tundra, may be available with a hybrid system as an option. The V6 powertrain and electric motor should function together in the hybrid vehicle. Of course, we are talking about the I-Force MAX setup.
At the moment, we don’t know how significant the upgrades inside the cabin are. The Japanese carmaker will most likely produce a more comfortable interior with the same seating configuration. Until now, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma was one of the roomiest vehicles in the mid-size segment, with seating for up to five people.
To be competitive, we expect Toyota will invest in higher-quality materials and new technologies. So don’t be surprised if the company adds a larger infotainment system like the one we saw on the Ram 1500s most equipped model. Furthermore, we hope to see additional driver-assistance aids and lots of optional equipment.
Spy Shots Showing Nice Facelift
The forthcoming 2024 Toyota Tacoma features numerous improvements and advancements. First and foremost, the new truck appears to be refreshed in both the front and back, and it will undoubtedly be built on the same TNGA-F platform. The same architecture underpins Sequoia SUV and Tundra truck.
However, the thick camouflage is still present, concealing a shorter and narrower chassis. In addition, the cab and bed appear to be smaller, and there is a new exhaust system. Overall, the design is more appealing, and we expect the next-generation model to face greater competition in the mid-size segment. Still, we’ll have to wait for the camo to come off.
