It sounds like full-size pickups don’t get enough love. The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is here to change that. The most popular segment for pickups is the mid-sized one. That is because people like to use them for everyday purposes and not just for work. On the other hand, full-sized pickups are made for work and rarely anyone uses them outside of that niche.
This means they have to be sturdy, capable, and long-lasting. For that purpose, powertrain choices matter a lot, and GMC is doing a good job so far. The Sierra received an update, and we believe it is a good one. Let’s take a look at what is in store for the new GMC Sierra 1500.
Interior Improvements
The inside of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is getting a complete do-over. This means improved seating and new upholstery with contrast stitching. Also, more features like heating and ventilating are included, while massaging features will cost extra. Better cushioning will be thrown in as well. The dashboard will be digital, and the infotainment will be a touchscreen of 13 inches.
There is enough space for five people to sit comfortably in the new Sierra. Hands-free driving will be available. This means you can relax behind the steering wheel during long drives. A sunroof and ambient lighting are probable. On higher trims, you can expect chrome and wooden accents along the cabin.

Nice Facelift is On the Way
The outside of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is still aggressive and rugged. This truck has nice ground clearance and underbody armor. This way, no obstacle will get stuck under you if you go off-roading. The pickup resides on 18-inch lightweight rims made from aluminum. This will shave off some weight.
The front mesh is also lightweight material. Bumpers are prominent and protrude a bit. We get a standard cargo bed of 5.5 feet in length along with the multifunctional tailgate. The overall body design is ergonomic and aerodynamic, which improves fuel economy and handling.

Engine Specs
The heavy-duty pickups need to be powerful since they do a lot of heavy lifting. This means that powertrain options need to be reliable. For that purpose, GMC gave us several options when it comes to their new full-size pickup line. The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 will have 3 options when we talk about engines. First up, we have a 6.6-liter V8 that uses gasoline. This is naturally aspirated and comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It can produce 400 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is enough to move the big Sierra around.
Another 6.6-liter V8, but this time it is a turbocharged diesel. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and produces 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. This amount of torque is extra handy on unpaved roads. If you do work off the beaten path, this is a godsend. There is also a 6.6-liter V8 turbocharged diesel with a six-speed automatic transmission. This beast produces 350 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. All of the abovementioned options can pull a lot of weight. It maxes out at 13,200 pounds towing and 2200 pounds hauling.
There are also rumors about an electric version of the Sierra coming up. For that purpose, GMC built a separate factory that will be busy in the future since many trucks are getting the electric treatment. We assume that there will be a new platform for the Sierra to accommodate all the electrical components. A battery pack of no less than 150 kWh should do the trick. This gives it immense power along with good range. Hopefully, not less than 300 miles on a single charge.

GMC Sierra 1500 Gets Around 26 MPG Combined
The different powertrain options equal different fuel costs. The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 can get around 23 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway with the diesel option. The gasoline V8 gets 16 mpg in the city and 20 on the open road.
2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Release Date and Cost
Expect the new Sierra to drop sometime during the summer of 2023. The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 will start at $56,000; the SLE trim will be $61,000; the SLT trim will be around $71,000, and the Denali is estimated at $76,000.
