The truck segment is on fire right now, with so many available options. The 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel is one of them. Unlike regular pickup trucks, this one is made for impressive off-road adventures. On top of that, it won’t be easy to rival the Ford F-150 Raptor model. Therefore, Chevy intends to add a diesel engine to the lineup.
The current ZR2 variant comes with a larger 6.2-liter V8 engine, but the next one will have a Duramax diesel engine as an option. This is not the only improvement, as we also expect to see numerous cabin upgrades and visual improvements on the outside.
The upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel is based on the regular half-ton Silverado 1500 truck. Thanks to that, both models will gain more or less the same upgrades. The ZR2 version is an incredible off-roader. With that in mind, Chevrolet offers lots of off-road gear. Furthermore, this truck looks very aggressive, offering 33-inch all-terrain tires, more ground clearance, Multimatic spool-valve dampers, and much more.
If that’s not good enough for you, there is the optional Bison package. This package improves approach and departure angles while providing even more ground clearance, up to 11.2 inches. The upgrades that the Bison package offers include improved mechanics, additional skid plates, larger wheels, and a unique front grille.
A similar story continues on the inside, as the 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel gets the same improvements as the regular Silverado 1500 model. For a start, you can have ZR2 trim level only in a crew cab setup. It is a four-door version with a five-foot, ten-inch bed. The cabin is spacious enough for all of the passengers, and the comfort is great.
A 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen comes as standard. The dashboard will see a few small updates, and we expect additional sporty touches. The interior offers dark trims, front bucket seats, and a unique electronic shifter. Hopefully, Chevrolet will add even more equipment, and new optional driver-assistance aids.
Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel Specs
The diesel engine is the biggest upgrade so far. The 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel is now a complete off-roader, no doubt about it. It is a well-known 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine in line-six. This powertrain option cranks out 495 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to that, the truck has a towing capacity of almost 9,000 pounds. Another option is a 6.2-liter V8 gas engine. The diesel engine has 305 hp, which is significantly less than the regular gas engine has to offer.
However, torque is better, which is crucial for off-roading. Not only that, the diesel powertrain is more economical, providing 24 mpg combined, compared to the petrol unit and its 17 miles per gallon combined. The biggest rivals are Ford F-150 Raptor and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Ford plans to offer the Raptor R model, which will be incredibly potent. As for the Tundra truck, this model will generate 583 lb-ft of torque thanks to its twin-turbo V6 hybrid setup.
2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel Price and Release Date
The 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel will start at around $75,000, while the Bison package will cost around $80,000. The sales will begin later this year, probably in September.
