Volkswagen will finally transform the Tarok concept into a production model. The upcoming 2023 VW Tarok could arrive this year, most likely in the last quarter. You can find a lot of rumors about this model, but official details are not available yet. Still, many reliable reports are saying that the Tarok model should enter production next month.
Originally, the manufacturer planned to sell the Tarok model in South America. Now, things have changed and new pickup trucks could also reach the American shores. From what we know, Tarok will be a compact model, most likely competing with Ford Maverick. Here’s everything you need to know about this new pickup truck.
VW Tarok is Shorter than the Ford Maverick
Right now, everything we know about the 2023 VW Tarok is its original concept. Therefore, the Tarok pickup truck will remain quite a mystery for another few weeks. Volkswagen will reportedly build a new Tarok model on the famous MQB architecture. This means an FWD system will come as standard. The new model will be around 196 inches long, which is three inches shorter than the Ford Maverick model.
The concept looks great and promising. Of course, some things will be different in the production model. However, we think the concept is modern enough and not too futuristic. Instead, Volkswagen opted for a subtle exterior design. Some features will be borrowed from the Tiguan model, which is a good thing.
Interior Details
Inside the cabin, the new 2023 VW Tarok will look very modern. We expect more than adequate cabin space for a compact pickup truck. Again, the concept looks very modern, so we don’t expect some major surprises. The MQB platform will provide a quiet ride, so you don’t have to worry about the level of comfort. The cabin layout will be the same as in the Amarok truck.
On the other hand, Tarok should provide a slightly different dashboard. Reportedly, this model will come with a standard 9.2-inch infotainment touchscreen. Volkswagen is yet to reveal further details, including cab setups, a list of standard and optional amenities, and much more.
Possible Engine Options
This is perhaps the biggest mystery. The forthcoming 2023 VW Tarok will offer a couple of powertrain options, depending on the country where this model is available. This means the markets in South America should expect a 1.4-liter petrol engine with 150 hp.
On the other hand, Tarok in the U.S. will have a more potent 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with around 200 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. This is just speculation, so we don’t actually know which engine Volkswagen plans to offer. Hybrid is a must, so the possibility remains. Still, we think the Tarok Hybrid model will arrive later in 2023.
2023 VW Tarok Release Date, Price
In order to rival Ford Maverick and other models in the segment, the new 2023 VW Tarok will have to start at around $25k. Who knows, maybe the price will be even more affordable. The sales of the brand-new pickup truck will reportedly begin later in 2022, in South America. At some point in 2023, Tarok should go on sale in the United States as well.
