The 2023 Ford Bronco Pickup won’t happen after all. Many reports suggested the expansion of the Bronco family, which includes a pickup truck. It sounds like a perfect way to rival Jeep’s Wrangler-based Gladiator pickup. However, this is not going to happen, unfortunately. Ford was said to be preparing a pickup version of the new Bronco, which was set to hit the market in 2024.
The planned Bronco truck has now been scrapped, according to multiple sources, with Blue Oval informing suppliers of the change of plans lately. The Bronco pickup was planned to be produced alongside the Bronco SUV and Ranger truck in Wayne, Michigan, but it might have caused too much overlap with the Ranger inside Ford’s portfolio.
2023 Bronco Pickup Won’t Reach the Production
Ford has never acknowledged plans for a 2023 Ford Bronco Pickup, although speculations claim that it will arrive around 2024. According to the latest and reliable sources, Blue Oval recently alerted suppliers that the project was being canceled.
The Bronco truck was supposed to be manufactured at Ford’s Wayne, Michigan facility alongside the Bronco SUV and Ranger midsize pickup. As a direct rival to the Jeep Gladiator, which is simply a Wrangler with a bed, the Bronco Pickup made a lot of sense.
What Was the Idea?
The 2023 Ford Bronco Pickup was designed to be an off-road model. The goal is to compete with the Jeep Gladiator, which currently has gasoline and diesel engine choices. Both pickup truck versions, like the Wrangler and Bronco SUVs, will offer something unique. We’re talking about doors, windshields, and roof panels that can be removed. As a result, we anticipated an open-air pickup truck with mechanical similarities to the Ford Ranger.
To hold us over until then, we’ve seen drawings of two- and four-door variants of the tough truck. This prospective Ford Bronco truck, meanwhile, has been scrapped, according to insiders. Despite the fact that Ford never acknowledged that a Bronco pickup was in the works, speculations claimed that it would be based on the same Ford T6 chassis as the Bronco SUV and Ford Ranger.
2023 Ford Bronco Pickup – What the Future Holds?
Regardless, Ford has made it plain that it wants to expand the Bronco family beyond the SUV and Ford Bronco Sport, and a pickup truck looked like a natural fit. The first-generation Bronco was also available in a pickup variant, the half cab, albeit only a handful were constructed. However, adding the 2023 Ford Bronco pickup to the portfolio would give the company three smaller pickups than the F-150, including the wildly popular Ford Maverick, which seems redundant.
The new Ford Ranger is also on the way, and the next-generation Ranger Raptor will be available in North America, which might have caused some confusion with a Bronco pickup. This move makes sense when you consider that the Bronco SUV has been sold out for over two years. Ford plans to provide a hybrid Bronco SUV, with the all-electric variant to follow. However, the pickup truck version won’t happen anytime soon.
