The upcoming 2023 Chevy Montana is reportedly in the works. Unibody pickup trucks appear to have risen almost suddenly from ridicule and figments of the American imagination to the market’s most widely followed category. There, the Ford Maverick, based on the Bronco Sport, will compete against the Hyundai Santa Cruz, a relative of the Tucson crossover. Much less well-known is that GM is preparing a third potential competitor, the Montana pickup.
Will any of Ford’s rivals step up and create a small pickup to compete with the Maverick? Chevrolet is indeed developing the Chevrolet Montana, a tiny, front-wheel-drive, four-door pickup truck. However, all signs are that it will not be marketed in the United States.
Chevy Montana – What is it?
The next-gen 2023 Chevy Montana will be a completely new model. According to Chevrolet, Montana will arrive with numerous innovations in order to meet the customers’ preferences nowadays. Interestingly, but Montana will become the brand’s first compact unibody pickup ever. Chevrolet will switch from a traditional single-cab two-door body style and deliver a four-door double cab variant instead.
Thanks to that, Montana will offer a room for five and the cargo capacity will be greater as well. Of course, the goal is to rival the brand-new Ford Maverick, but we are still waiting to hear more about the Montana pickup.
The forthcoming 2023 Chevy Montana will sit on an extended version of GEM architecture. This is a good thing because this platform should provide better ride quality than the previous ones. Thanks to that, we can already predict which engine will power the new Montana pickup. At this moment, a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine is the most likely option. This unit generates 133 horsepower. Of course, a more powerful engine will be optional for sure.
What we don’t know is the potential hybrid variant. It does make sense to offer a small hybrid pickup nowadays. Whatsoever, Ford Maverick will be a hybrid and some reports are already suggesting an all-electric Maverick as well. The Maverick Hybrid pickup will develop around 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.
2023 Chevy Montana Launch Date and Cost
New 2023 Chevy Montana will be a unibody compact pickup. Its sales will reportedly begin later next year, which means the production will start anytime soon. Unfortunately, Montana won’t arrive in the United States, at least not in the first year of production. Instead, Chevy will sell new Montana pickup in South America. Montana will share underpinnings with Buick Encore crossover.
In terms of price, Montana will probably cost around $20,000, like the Ford Maverick. Chevrolet clearly plans to rival Ford and its Maverick model in the compact pickup truck segment. Moreover, Hyundai Santa Cruz is another potential rival. The Maverick model will start at $21,000, while Santa Cruz should cost slightly above that. However, Chevrolet is still silent, so we expect to hear more details in the coming months.
