The 2022 VW Atlas Tanoak, which began as a concept, might be released in the near future. Tanoak, as the name implies, is based on the Atlas SUV, so there will be many similarities. The company’s objective is to sell its new pickup vehicle in the United States, but no one knows if this will happen.
Furthermore, according to certain sources, the Atlas Tanoak model will not be produced anytime soon. Other speculations claim that a new model will be released in the coming months. Only time will tell, however, we must say that the original concept was warmly accepted. Reportedly, Tanoak will share engines with the Atlas SUV, along with numerous styling cues and mechanical components.
2022 Atlas Tanoak Looks Modern and Unique
The forthcoming 2022 VW Atlas Tanoak is a hybrid of the very promising concept and the Atlas SUV. Although the styling is so easy to recognize, Volkswagen will include distinctive external features. Tanoak appears modern, and we like that VW did not choose for a more futuristic design, as some other manufacturers have. Tanoak will be a unibody truck, but there have been whispers of body-on-frame design.
The objective is to take on the Honda Ridgeline in every manner possible, and the unibody platform is only the beginning. Atlas Tanoak will almost certainly get the same modern headlights and a distinctive grille with chrome elements. Narrow taillights will dominate the back section, and at least three different wheel choices are expected. On top of that, the manufacturer will provide unique exterior paints and possibly a sportier variant.
The cabin of the forthcoming 2022 VW Atlas Tanoak should not deliver many surprises. Regardless, the concept depicted a basic interior with a comprehensive list of conventional features. Of course, the higher trim levels may surprise you, but the base trim level is precisely what Volkswagen has offered for years. Logically, the pickup truck will borrow a lot from its SUV sibling.
It’s wonderful to see that the cabin space is ample. Cab options are not yet available, but we anticipate at least two cab variations. The interior design is identical to that of the Atlas SUV, with the same dashboard and air vents. Although certain buttons have been reproduced, the upholstery will be brand new.
Standard and Optional Engine Options
We don’t anticipate the 2022 VW Atlas Tanoak to steal the Atlas SUV’s whole powertrain lineup. A 3.6-liter V6 engine, on the other hand, will undoubtedly power the new pickup truck. This gasoline engine generates 275 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This is more than enough to compete with the Honda Ridgeline and even rivals like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma.
Although a diesel powertrain is not currently in plans, an optional 2.0-liter turbo-four gasoline engine appears to be the obvious result. This engine produces 235 hp and 280 lb-ft of twisting power thanks to a turbocharger. Even the transmission is now a mystery. Finally, Volkswagen intends to launch an all-electric Atlas Tanoak within the next four years.
2022 VW Atlas Tanoak Release Date, Price
The upcoming 2022 VW Atlas Tanoak is expected to cost approximately $30,000. This is a perfectly reasonable price as the Honda Ridgeline pickup starts at around $32,500. It will be interesting to see if Volkswagen will make a breakthrough in the United States first. More information, such as cab configurations and trim levels, is still pending from the manufacturer. If all goes as planned, we might see this pickup truck in less than a year.
