The 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition is an impressive model that will gain a lot of upgrades. As you probably know, the Tacoma truck didn’t see a redesign since 2016. That is about to change, and the new Tacoma will arrive with a redesign. With numerous trim levels and special editions, Tacoma is perhaps the most popular and most reliable mid-size pickup truck.
It really has a lot to offer, from the base model to off-road and luxury variants. If you are an off-road fan, Tacoma has solutions for you. The first one is the TRD Pro trim level. The second is Trail Edition. Like any other trim level, Trail Edition will also benefit from the latest changes and upgrades.
2022 Tacoma Trail Edition – What Is It?
And while the TRD Pro is the most famous trim level, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition is right there. The Trail Edition, which debuted in 2021, is based on the Tacoma SR5 trim level. This version added design and convenience amenities from the SR5, but it did nothing to improve the truck’s off-road capabilities.
New Trail Edition retains its iconic style and distinctive in-bed storage for 2022 while adding some significant off-road performance benefits. Here’s everything you need to know about this impressive model.

Exterior Changes and Colors
The 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition rides on 16-inch bronze TRD rims covered in Goodyear all-terrain tires. This upgrade provides a 0.5-inch wider track. The Trail Edition includes a redesigned grille with bronze writing, black exterior badging, a color-keyed rear bumper, and a new Lunar Rock exterior color.
This new color joins the existing Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, and Army Green paints. Some rumors are also predicting new Yellow paint, or Lime to be more precise.
What About the Rest of Upgrades?
The upcoming 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition is back with a new design and exterior elements. This includes a unique grille design and badging. It also has a 120-volt power outlet in the bed as well as a lockable bed storage system. Aside from its natural calling as a tailgate or camping vehicle, the 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition receives a few off-road-focused changes to better handle different types of off-road adventures. First, Toyota discontinues the rear-wheel-drive Trail Edition, which is now only available as a 4×4 Double Cab. The Tacoma’s Double Cab is the bigger cab with four full-size doors, as opposed to the smaller Access Cab.
The Trail Edition also gets a front suspension lift of 1.1 inches and a rear suspension lift of 0.5 inches thanks to taller coil springs. This is combined with the removal of the SR5’s front air dam, which improves approach, departure, and break-over angles. Toyota also provides a standard locking rear differential and new skid plates derived from the TRD Off-Road grade for further protection on tough terrains. Of course, the interior is getting significant updates as well. Nothing will change under the hood, which isn’t a bad thing at all.

2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition Price, Release Date
The 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition is going on sale in the fall of 2021. Toyota has not yet released pricing, but we anticipate a price increase from the existing Trail Edition price of around $38,300. New Tacoma is manufactured in Mexico, as the production is recently moved from Texas.
