The forthcoming 2022 Ram 1500 Diesel will try to remain the best light-duty diesel pickup truck. As before, the biggest rivals are the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150 models. Both variants are getting significant upgrades, so Ram will also provide some serious refreshments. As a result, Ram is compelled to go on the same route and include further upgrades to its best-selling pickup truck. The 2022MY will be better because the Ram will boost almost every aspect.
Nonetheless, the modifications are not as drastic as one would imagine. We also know that Ford intends to release an electric version of the F-150. This could be a significant benefit for Blue Oval in the future. Ram offers a hybrid alternative, but if you want to be the best, a hybrid powertrain is insufficient. At this moment, the diesel variant is perhaps the most popular one.

Ram 1500 Diesel Fuel Economy, Towing and Payload Capacity
Like the current model, the new 2022 Ram 1500 Diesel will continue to offer the same engine. It is a reliable 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine. It is a unit that comes with a block of graphite iron and a pair of aluminum heads. The manufacturer tweaked this engine multiple times in recent history. The result is a potent diesel powertrain with 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.
Thanks to that, Ram 1500 is capable of towing 12,560 pounds, which is the best-in-class figure. Payload capacity is rated at 2,040 pounds. This engine is also fuel-efficient, which comes as no surprise. As you know, diesels are providing better fuel economy ratings than gasoline engines. This one provides 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

Ram 1500 Against the Rivals
As we already mentioned, the 2022 Ram 1500 Diesel will continue to rival Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado 1500. At this moment, Ram’s EcoDiesel engine is a huge advantage for the brand. The EcoDiesel provides the best-in-segment torque ratings and the best towing capacity.
In the world of diesel engines, this is the best variant you can get in the light-duty pickup truck segment. Ford F-150 provides 440 lb-ft of torque, while Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 are offering 460 lb-ft of torque. Clearly, Ram 1500 Diesel is the winner here, thanks to its 480 lb-ft of twisting power.
Changes
The 2022 Ram 1500 Diesel will suffer the same upgrades as the base variant with the gasoline engine. Two models will look exactly the same. Still, we don’t expect to see dramatic visual updates. Instead, the manufacturer will provide mid-cycle refreshments. The front fascia is slightly modified thanks to the slimmer headlights. The rear end hosts refined taillights and new exterior colors are a possibility.
On the inside, Ram 1500 Diesel will gain more high-tech amenities. A new infotainment system is on offer and it is the next-gen Uconnect5 system. We don’t expect to see larger displays or more upright materials. The cabin design and its layout will remain intact.

2022 Ram 1500 Diesel Price, Release Date
Regular gasoline-powered Ram 1500 pickup truck will be available for around $30,000. The 2022 Ram 1500 Diesel will cost more, around $6,000 above the regular price. The sales will begin later in 2021.
