Finally, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid is coming to the markets. Jeep confirmed the hybrid model and the production is about to start. It is a game-changer for every manufacturer. Luckily, Jeep already offers Wrangler 4xe variant so developing new technology has no point and it saves money. The Gladiator 4xe will borrow that hybrid setup from the Wrangler SUV, which is a logical outcome after all.
As you know, Gladiator offered only gasoline engines in its first year. Diesel became available in the second year of production, and third-year will introduce hybrid power. This is great news about the mid-size pickup truck. However, we don’t know in which trim levels hybrid powertrain will become available.
2022 Gladiator 4xe Changes
New 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid will arrive with minor updates. That includes both exterior and interior changes. For a start, the exterior design will introduce small changes such as sharper lines and possibly new exterior paints. However, that’s about it.
The interior will provide a new infotainment system and new driver-assistance. The safety will be better, and Gladiator will offer more standard features. Besides that, this pickup truck will largely remain.
Engine Lineup
As we said, Gladiator firstly arrived with one engine, then diesel engine became available as well. Now, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid is also in the works, so there will be three engines available. Once again, 3.6-liter V6 gasoline is standard and it comes with a six-speed manual transmission. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be optional. A 3.0-liter EcoDiesel delivers more torque and slightly better fuel efficiency.
Now, a plug-in hybrid powertrain is a real deal. Interestingly, Jeep will combine a hybrid setup with a 2.0-liter turbo engine. A Dual-motor setup is in the works where one engine will serve for propulsion and the other one will be used as a generator. Jeep said that meeting emissions regulations is harder than ever, so the sales are lower than usual. Luckily, a hybrid model is coming and an all-electric version is perhaps not that far.
Gladiator 4xe Specs
We already mention the 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid will borrow a hybrid powertrain from the Wrangler 4xe SUV. This is the most logical outcome. And while we don’t know that much about the new Gladiator, we know everything about the Wrangler 4xe model. Wrangler offers a hybrid engine in a four-door body style. It can be had in Sahara trim level and trims above that.
This SUV offers 25 miles of all-electric driving range thanks to its 17-kWh battery pack. The battery is placed beneath the rear seats so the interior room won’t be affected. The output delivers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to that, a hybrid actually generates more torque than the diesel engine. Of course, fuel efficiency will be better as well.

The base Gladiator currently costs $33,500. Unfortunately, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid will cost around $40,000, which is more than everyone expected. Still, the offer is fair as Gladiator 4xe will be an exceptional pickup truck. The sales will begin at the beginning of 2022.
