2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is Coming Back As an Electric Pickup Truck

The upcoming 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is reportedly the name of the brand-new all-electric variant. F-150 Lightning is the model from the 90s, powered by a V8 engine and it was an extremely popular model back in the days. Now, Blue Oval reportedly plans to use the Lightning name once again, this time, on its new all-electric F-150. Another possibility is the E-150 name, but this seems less likely to happen.

New F-150 Lightning will deploy a dual-motor setup with a standard all-wheel-drive system. Everyone expects to see incredible performances and the sales will begin next year. Without further ado, here’s everything we know about this impressive model so far.

2022 F-150 Lightning Specs

Ford hasn’t said much about the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning and its powertrain, but it will feature a dual-motor system and a standard all-wheel drive. The electric F-150, according to Ford, would have more horsepower and torque, as well as the best acceleration of any F-150 currently on the market. This means it will have more than 450 horsepower and will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than 5.0 seconds.

We anticipate that the battery pack in the F-150 Lightning can have more than 300 miles of range, as the longest-range Mustang Mach-E is EPA-rated at 305 miles of driving range. Lastly, Ford developed a removal range extender that sits in the bed.

Is the Lightning Name Official?

The answer is no. However, leaked documents are showing the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning as the name of the new F-150 model with an all-electric powertrain. We already wrote about the “E-150” name as the most likely outcome.

However, the document shows the Lightning name, but we don’t know if this is a hoax or reality. The E-150 makes more sense, as Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit models are using electric power. Still, reliable reports are now suggesting the F-150 Lightning as the new name.

Exterior Design

The first spy images of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning are now available. Last month, a spied prototype was spotted experimenting in Michigan. The electric version would be identical to the standard F-150 edition. The ride height and plug-in port are the most noticeable differences. Because of the motors, the hybrid version could have more ground clearance.

Still, this is an early version, and we have no idea what the finished product would be like. In addition, we saw a screenshot of the current E-150 truck towing and dragging items. The interior would be almost identical to that of the base F-150. The electric edition, we think, would be based on the higher trim levels.

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Price, Release Date

The price of the forthcoming 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is not available yet. However, we expect to see a price between the Tesla Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV. The sales will begin in the third quarter of 2022.

We are still waiting to see if the Blue Oval will name its new F-150 EV “Lightning” or “E-150”. Interestingly, but even the “Everglades” name is a rumor right now.
