2022 Dodge Dakota release date

2022 Dodge Dakota – Pickup Truck is Making a Comeback

The mid-size truck segment is back and is stronger than ever before. Now, the upcoming 2022 Dodge Dakota is about to arrive. As you know, some reports suggested that this model won’t happen after Stellantis took over the FCA. Reportedly, Stellantis wanted to focus on the Jeep Gladiator truck. However, the latest and very reliable reports are saying that the 2022 Dakota is happening.

We don’t know yet if Dakota will arrive under the Dodge’s or Ram’s badge, but it doesn’t really matter. New Dakota is happening and it will slot below the Ram 1500 model. After the redesigned Nissan Frontier, almost brand-new Jeep Gladiator, Ford also decided to return its famous Ranger pickup. Now, the segment is on fire and we can’t wait to see the new Dakota and its huge comeback.

2022 Dakota Looks Modern

The forthcoming 2022 Dodge Dakota will look similar to the Ram 1500 pickup truck. This is the most logical outcome, so we are not surprised. Of course, Dakota is a smaller pickup but it will look unique and modern. The design language is recognized as both Dakota and Ram 1500 are offering the same body lines.

Even some of the exterior features are almost identical. The front fascia comes with a familiar trapezoidal grille and LED headlamps. Unlike the Ram 1500, Dakota comes with different doors and different fenders. The bumpers are unique, along with the wheels and exterior colors. The rear part hosts LED taillights and it looks very stylish in our opinion.

Interior Based on the Ram 1500

The interior continues in the same fashion. New 2022 Dodge Dakota will be based on the Ram 1500 so the same interior design is expected. This is a good thing as Ram 1500 offers a very modern and upscale cabin. Comfort is great and we expect to see a lot of standard amenities as well. Sure, Dakota will gain a new infotainment system, additional driver-assistance features, and much more.

The biggest mystery is the 12-inch touchscreen. We think this unit will be optional and not standard as some rumors wrote. Dakota pickup will offer a lot of interior space and a high level of comfort. The goal is to deliver a modern pickup truck so a digital instrument cluster will be in the offer. Optionally, Dodge will offer stuff such as Wi-Fi and a panoramic sunroof.

Dakota Offers eTorque Hybrid System

The 2022 Dodge Dakota will offer a hybrid powertrain option. This is the most important thing in our opinion. Dakota is the mid-size model so engines such as 6.4-liter V8 won’t be in the offer. A 3.6-liter V6 is the brand’s most famous and most used engine. This unit will be standard and 3.0-liter EcoDiesel will be optional.

The diesel engine develops 260 hp and up to 480 lb-ft of torque. Still, the mild-hybrid powertrain will be the most popular option. Dodge will borrow the same combination of the 3.6-liter V6 and the 48-volt eTorque system. Exact specs are not available yet, but Dakota Hybrid will surely generate around 300 horsepower, if not even more. On top of that, a hybrid powertrain will produce 480 lb-ft of torque, just like a diesel engine. Still, the fuel efficiency will be significantly better.

Some details are not available yet, but the manufacturer will reveal them in the coming months. The biggest mystery is if the Dakota pickup will arrive under the Ram’s or Dodge’s badge.

  1. My ’95 Extended Cab had a wonderful V8 318ci, my ’05 Quad Cab had a usable V8 4.7L. I’m REALLY looking forward to a V8 option in the new Dakota. We don’t need a 4-cyl option, we don’t need a diesel option. Please listen to your longtime, returning customer base and give us what we want…..
