The announced 2021 VW Amarok won’t bring anything too drastic and innovative. The changes are minimal since Volkswagen working on a new generation. The next-gen Amarok will be introduced in 2022. At the moment, the company testing new features, that will be included for the next season release. Moreover, we expect to see some advanced technologies as well as improvements in the engine room.
Well, the Volkwagen group could include some of the new elements in the upcoming US model, either in Atlas Tanoak or as Amarok. Furthermore, the VW Group will step into the electric class as well. Recently, we had a chance to see some really interesting concepts. Therefore, we expect at least one all-electric pickup from the German carmaker in the next seasons. However, the 2021 Amarok won’t go electric. For now, at least.
2021 VW Amarok Engine Specs
The pickup truck models are very popular across the world. The customers just adore the reliable engines and the towing capacity which these vehicles provide. 2021 VW Amarok won’t be different at all. Under the hood, you’ll find the familiar 2.0-liter petrol unit. This mill makes 160 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the four-cylinder engine, Amarok will use a V6 unit as well. it is a 3.6-liter mill, good for 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.
Furthermore, the toeing capacity of the upcoming pickup will be 7,000 pounds. This is an impressive output for a petrol engine, you’ll agree. Also, Volkswagen’s pickup will offer diesel options as well. However, none of these mills won’t be available for the customers in the United States. Other markets will receive the updated 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI, which generates 140-180 hp.
On top of that, available V6 Bluemotien diesel configuration makes 270 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque as well. The VW Group might add a V8 drivetrain, but not for the 2021MY. It’s simply too large for this class.
Volkswagen Brings Atlas Tanoak to the US Market
2021 Amarok is a non-US truck. However, the company tries to find to enter the world’s largest truck market. But, they must face many obstacles on the road. We all know what happens with the Diesel Emission scandal. Well, it’s been a long time since we heard from the VW regarding the new pickup.
Although the new model is announced, we still don’t know is it going to be Atlas Tanoak or Amarok. Well, the concept looks production-ready. But, the company will probably wait for the new generation to bring Atlas Tanoak in the lineup. We expect to see both models by 2022 in the States.
2021 VW Amarok and the Competition
Volkswagen is ready to enter the pickup truck market. The mid-size class is very popular at the moment. The upcoming releases of models such as Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator will spice the things up even further. Well, the arrival of 2021 VW Amarok could make the situation more interesting.
But, outside the class, the German pickups could have serious competition in vehicles such as Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara. Also, don’t forget the European carmakers. First and foremost, Fiat with the Fullback, and Renault with the Alaskan truck.
