2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Engine, Price, and Competition

2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Engine, Competition

The diesel powertrain will be finally included in one of the most popular pickup trucks – the famous Ford F-150. The Powerstroke mill will make the Blue Oval’s truck even more agile and proficient than before. Although 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel won’t bring severe design changes and updates, the company expect good sale figures and success, especially on the North American market.

Also, the diesel engine will be available only on XLT and upper trims. Unfortunately, the base XL won’t include this type of drivetrain. Still, there will be numerous options to upgrade the base version. The Powerstroke mill will add an extra $5K to the price, in comparison to the standard model. The Dearborn-based automaker built a 3.3-liter V6 powertrain that will be in action for an entry-level F-150. However, the biggest mystery is – will the diesel engine be available on the Raptor trim?

Under the bonnet of Ford’s truck will be a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine. This V6 unit generates 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, the Powerstroke drivetrain will be able to return 30 mpg on highways.

The V6 mill is connected to a 10-speed automatic gearbox, while the maximum towing capacity is 11,500 pounds. There only one engine in Ford’s stable that can beat that rating, and it’s a sizeable V8 mill with a towing capacity of 11,600 lbs.

The Raptor

This version of the F-150 truck will offer only the twin-turbo V6 engine. Still, it is a potent mill and able to compete with the class leaders such as Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Moreover, the Raptor includes Fox monotube shocks, which increase the off-road capability. On top of that, the cruise control improves trailing, and underbody protection refined with brand-new skid plates. However, if the diesel powertrain makes way into this version, we expect to see some Raptor-unique features as well.

Furthermore, the special edition of this model adds a bed divider, foldable box extender, and spray-in bed liner. But, the first thing you’ll notice is a refined front grille. Instead of the more conventional design for this type of vehicle, the Raptor comes with a vast Ford badge. Besides, the twin-panel moonroof is available, and the 8-inch screen with the premium B&O audio system.

2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Competition and Price

The main competitors of the 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel will be Ram 1500 and Silverado 1500. Let’s take a quick look at these trucks, shall we? Well, the Silverado Diesel produces 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, Ram 1500 makes 460 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque and a segment-leading towing capacity rating.

The Ram’s truck tow up to 12,560 pounds. However, the Silverado Diesel’s additional power over Ford’s truck didn’t provide better hauling. Thus, the Silverado tows only 9,300 pounds. As for the price, if you choose the XLT version with a Crew Cab, the starting price is $47,000. But, as you climb up the trim ladder, the price will rise accordingly.

The Lariat adds more equipment and starts $4,000 higher. The King Ranch and Premium are the top-ranking variants, and they come with pricing tags close to $60,000. The 2020MY is still in excellent condition, with fresh design and features. So, the next big update won’t happen before 2022.
